Within the framework of a field trip in French Polynesia for my film Le chant du lagon, I filmed my friend and bioacoustician Frédéric Bertucci and free-diving fishermen, in order to show how science and traditional knowledge consider the same object: sounds in the aquatic environment. There is no indigenous alternative to Western science, however I was able to experiment the camera-tool, as a possibility of discovery and appropriation of stories. Through a diegetic process, the image invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the vision of neighbouring worlds. The story of fishing is a representation of a perception of the world and the sound of the fish translates a living part of the immediate environment of the fisherman and the scientist.

» A journey to Africa and a letter to Romain Gary, author of Les Racines du Ciel, the first ecological novel, passionate about saving elephants. More than forty years after reading the book, the words come out. "When you can’t take it anymore, do what I do: think of herds of elephants running free across Africa, hundreds and hundreds of magnificent beasts to whom nothing resists (...) Freedom!"

This article describes the difficulty of filming the entirety of a Tibetan ritual and capturing its complexity. The ritual is an assembly of elements and activities taking place in different places and at different times. The author describes her ethnographic fieldwork over a period of twenty years in a Tibetan Buddhist monastery rebuilt in the context of exile in Nepal, focusing on a Tibetan ritual known as chams, certain elements of which have been performed and exported to international stages under the name of "sacred dances of Tibet". It also shows that capturing the living can generate all kinds of unexpected and unforeseeable events.

This study will approach the choreographic field of Bali, Indonesia using the potential of visual anthropology. The main focus is the animal as a dancing figure. It is analyzed by the use of photography and video as part of a research creation project. Thus, the study supports the idea of both preservation and subversion of the local choreographic tradition, as vitality and future viability.

This article proposes to follow the author on the margins of the researcher's field in Marrakech based on three photos taken in a private setting. The analysis of his personal productions makes it possible to break down the barriers between professional and private lives and shows how the informal life of research missions continues to nourish the researcher's reflection. The approach based on photos and a film allows the author to provide a reflection on the evocative power of the clichés observed in the critical analysis of his own approach in the field and on its margins.

How can ethno-photographic inquiry tell the story of an urban experience? The hospitality of a city, as Isaac Joseph points out, is not limited to housing its inhabitants. It is defined as a system of activities that goes from buildings to public spaces and transport networks. In this sense, the city must be an "accessible" space for "the rest of us". What if these perspectives were precisely what photography can capture, not an illustrative tool but as a source of data. This paper presents the results of an exploratory photographic urban investigation of the Humanicité district in Lille. This “utopian” neighborhood was imagined as a mixed, solidarity-based urban space and a place of social innovation. The paper and the collection of photographs will examine and analyze the esthetic and symbolic patterns of hospitality.
