      <link>https://revues.mshparisnord.fr/ethnographie/index.php?id=1361</link>
The history of theatrical biomechanics lasts during a brief period (1918-late 1920s). If the term, with biological and medical origins, seduced the representatives of the avant-garde, it was because it was ideally suited to the projects of the new power, eager to forge a new man based on science. Biomechanics will be used to rationalize the movements of workers, soldiers, sportsmen and, by contamination, dancers and actors. The director Meyerhold distinguished himself by his radicalism and his inventiveness and made F. Crommelynck's Magnificent Cuckold (1922) a performance manifesting the revolution in the theatre, by introducing biomechanics as a system of acting. Four years later, Meyerhold rehearsals I want a child, a debate piece by S. Tretyakov addressing the possible transformations of the human species in the country of the Soviets. The text which exposes the eugenic aims of the extremist militants of the avant-garde, calling for the selection of a new race of men, 100% of proletarian origin, will finally be banned by the censorship. </description>
