The analysis establishes an inventory of the public tourist cultural offers developed in the Hauts-de-France region in terms of promoting literary heritage. Therefore, the paper studies the reasons why literature is used to promote a territory (in other words : what are the literary values that interest a territory) and, correlatively, what these cultural activities say about literature. Ultimately, it shows how the tools for enhancing the territory appropriate literature around an experience of reading and visiting, co-constructed by a storytelling of the territory by literary history and a setting in space of it in return, in particular with the help of digital devices whose functioning will be questioned.

From 1987 to 1995, the Festival of the Rats of Arras was a major cultural event for residents of Arras, municipality and local associations and participated in the revitalization of heritage memory. If it was initially a historical parade, punctuated by a parade of giants and banquets, the Festival of the Rats became part of the axes of political reflection, where the public space is indicated as much as a festive gathering space than that of a resistance. This new dimension is manifested in particular by the

Anthropologists dealing with intangible cultural heritage (ICH) must increasingly navigate between territorial expertise and critical analysis. Thus, they are caught in a double constraint often identified with an opposition between “applied” research and “fundamental” research. Their understanding of ICH must therefore be very flexible. On the field, they must train communities in the use of anthropological tools and in self-criticism. In collaboration with the institutions in charge of promoting ICH, they must show how their discipline will be useful to cultural policies. Discussing their findings with their colleagues, they must make them understand the specificities of the field studied. Empirical material related to the case of the processional giants and dragons of Western Europe (France, Belgium) will be used here to feed our demonstration.

This text aims to study the characteristics of the creation of a representative character for a city, in the form of a giant or other processional structures: the spectacular requirements, the technical forms (materials, carrying), the choice of figures that could become emblematic, and the questions their maintenance raises within the process of patrimonialization, between immaterial culture and materiality of the elements held in festivals. To do this, the study is based on European examples, in Belgium (Stavelot, La Louvière, Chapelle-lez-Herlaimont), Switzerland (Basel), and Catalonia (Manresa and Berga).

Based on the example of the sound and light show De Terre et de Feu… en Hainaut performed every summer in Denain (North of France) since 2012, this article analyzes the way in which a historical show established in a socially and economically devastated municipality with a weak tourist attraction can be a vector of cultural revitalization and reconciliation between a population and the unknown history of its town. This local event brings together hundreds of amateur participants and spectators each year around the revaluation of a tangible and intangible cultural heritage and the claim of participation in “great history”. The article considers the performance both aesthetically and sociologically.

The events that accompanied the 150th anniversary of the Commune, far from being limited to official commemorations, renewed its forms and meanings. This is notably the case in the musical field, with a record entitled "La Commune refleurira" (The Commune will bloom again), very different, in its project and form, from another record released fifty years earlier, "La Commune en chantant" (The Commune singing). The comparative analysis of these two objects and their reference to the "Commune of 1871" event helps to illustrate Pierre Nora's thesis of a passage from history to memory. The classic model of national commemoration is breaking down in favor of a fragmented system, which assumes a different, open, elective, plastic relationship with the past.

Between 2012 and 2014, the Maison des Cultures du Monde-French Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage experimented with an inventory of giants and their festivals in the north of France, among two inscribed on the UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This research-action project, implemented with local stakeholders and partners, has generated intense reflections and debates on the way to approach this living and diverse practice, associating tangible and intangible heritages, which mobilize multiple communities, forms of expression and know-how.

The history of theatrical biomechanics lasts during a brief period (1918-late 1920s). If the term, with biological and medical origins, seduced the representatives of the avant-garde, it was because it was ideally suited to the projects of the new power, eager to forge a new man based on science. Biomechanics will be used to rationalize the movements of workers, soldiers, sportsmen and, by contamination, dancers and actors. The director Meyerhold distinguished himself by his radicalism and his inventiveness and made F. Crommelynck's Magnificent Cuckold (1922) a performance manifesting the revolution in the theatre, by introducing biomechanics as a system of acting. Four years later, Meyerhold rehearsals I want a child, a debate piece by S. Tretyakov addressing the possible transformations of the human species in the country of the Soviets. The text which exposes the eugenic aims of the extremist militants of the avant-garde, calling for the selection of a new race of men, 100% of proletarian origin, will finally be banned by the censorship.
