      <title>La forme politique des ronds-points</title>
      <link>http://revues.mshparisnord.fr/chcp/index.php?id=228</link>
This article examines the places in which the Yellow Vests movement took place. It explores the mechanisms and expressions of the political form embodied by the roundabouts occupied by the Yellow Vests. The ethnographic survey conducted in the South-West of France evidences that this political form plays a crucial role in the construction of this social movement. At the same time spaces free of any prior social mobilization and places familiar to the working class in rural and peri-urban areas, the roundabouts were conducive to a mobilization at a distance from the conventional stages of social struggles and the official political space. The social appeal of roundabouts for the participants lies in the fact that they, from the outset, were turned not only into sites for action (blockades of roads or shopping malls), but also places for discussions and experience sharing: situations previously experienced on an individual level now appeared as a shared social condition. These gatherings politicize, through sensitive experience, the conditions of existence. In addition, occupation practices require a plurality of skills (DIY, cooking, etc.) that allow people with different social profiles to easily find their place on roundabouts, in contrast to mobilizations where militant action is from the outset framed by prescribed norms. Roundabouts thus allow for an original political construction. Indeed, the militant inexperience of the participants, as well as the initial lack of a formal and sustainable organization prior to the mobilization, are compensated by the gatherings on roundabouts: the latter play the role of a decentralized organizational mechanism. Co-presence in an open space, whose form changes due to its occupation, first of all promotes sociabilities between individuals characterized by relative social heterogeneity: these sociabilities are potentially integrating and socializing. Over time, the sites of occupation tend to diversify: each occupied roundabout is loaded with a specific atmosphere, exposing the plurality of the expectations of the Yellow Vests towards the movement, the contradictions that shape it, but also its capacity to overcome them. In particular, the article shows a tension between a logic of social respectability, which tends to make roundabouts more socially selective spaces, and where certain practices deemed deviant are rejected, and a logic of openness to all publics, including the most precarious, but which entails greater internal conflict. As sites of sociability allowing different forms of solidarity, roundabouts are also places that are sometimes inhabited. Shacks, or cabins have often been built on roundabouts, where utopian experiments can be launched. </description>
