      <link>http://revues.mshparisnord.fr/chcp/index.php?id=1696</link>
<description>À travers une lecture croisée de Debt: The First 5000 Years, de The Dawn of Everything et de plusieurs articles plus anciens de David Graeber, cet article interroge l’usage qu’il fait de la documentation économique du Proche-Orient ancien pour fonder son anthropologie politique. Through a combined reading of Debt: The First 5000 Years, The Dawn of Everything, and several earlier articles by David Graeber, this paper examines the use he makes of ancient Near Eastern economic documentation in order to ground his political anthropology. We survey his work in order to reveal how cuneiform sources, especially Old Babylonian ones, inform his reflections on debt, reciprocity, the emergence of markets, and the circulation of money. Two phenomena receive particular attention: the terhatum (bridewealth) and the mīšarum (debt cancellation). Finally, we show how deeply his involvement in Occupy Wall Street and in movements advocating debt cancellation was intertwined with his engagement with ancient sources, scholarship fostering in his case a genuine militant practice. </description>
