<title>La subsistance. Entretien avec Geneviève Pruvost </title>
      <link>http://revues.mshparisnord.fr/chcp/index.php?id=1614</link>
The interview was proposed to Geneviève Pruvost following the publication of her latest book, La subsistance au quotidien, devoted to the question of subsistance and the politics of everyday life. Published in 2024, this book is the second volume of a vast project that began with Quotidien politique (La Découverte, 2021). While the first volume took a more theoretical and analytical approach, examining the conceptual tools used to think about the politicization of everyday life and the critique of productivism, La subsistance au quotidien shifts the focus to the concrete experience of ordinary practices: cultivating, repairing, exchanging, inhabiting, caring.A sociologist at the CNRS, Geneviève Pruvost first made a name for herself with her research on gender, police institutions, and violence. Her early work, notably Profession : policier. Sexe : féminin (Éditions de la Maison des sciences de l’homme, 2007) and, with Coline Cardi, Penser la violence des femmes (La Découverte, 2012), made their mark on the sociology of gender and work by questioning the presence of women in traditionally male-dominated environments and the construction of legitimate violence in the tension between gender norms and professional practices. With Quotidien politique and then La subsistance au quotidien, she continues her long-term reflection on sober, ecological, and egalitarian ways of life, considered as discreet but powerful political practices. By articulating sociology, ecology, and feminist criticism, she reveals the ways in which subsistance can be understood not as a simple material necessity, but as a field of political and existential experimentation. It is from this perspective that we wanted to talk to her, in order to revisit the genesis of this project, its continuities with her previous research, and the critical and emancipatory significance she attaches to the notion of subsistence. </description>
