      <link>http://revues.mshparisnord.fr/chcp/index.php?id=1029</link>
“Brazil, between the Catastrophe and the New Composition of Labour”The article offers an assessment of the Brazilian political situation, namely the disaster that led to Jair Bolsonaro’s winning the presidential elections in 2018. The rise of the far right in Brazil is analyzed, on the one hand, in the perspective of its global dynamics and, on the other hand, of the specific Brazilian context. Both processes are envisaged as idiosyncratic phases of the emergence of a new type of fascism. The aim is therefore to situate the debate in the context of two major trends: first, the slippery slopes where that social conflicts are evolving and, second, the transformations in the composition of labour. Contemporary society is increasingly impacted by profound processes of social fragmentation, whose driving force is the establishment of labor mobilization mechanisms that perpetuate and amplify the crisis of salaried employment. The growing social fragmentation makes the social composition more and more fuzzy. The traditional divisions that produce the figures of friend and foe are blurred. But, far from disappearing, these figures circulate and prompt the outbreak of multidirectional conflicts. The resulting violence mutates, on the one hand, into a growing demand for who the foe is and, on the other hand, into a new dynamic of warfare. The new type of fascism is growing on this terrain, with its renewed ability to wage culture wars and even real wars. However, the real impasse where Brazil stands lies with the difficulties of apprehending the new composition of labour. A contribution to renewing efforts for understanding the transformations of labour and an urgent recomposition of emancipation policies, the article proposes to reconstruct the debate on the conundrum of the new composition of labour. In the 2010s, in Brazil, this now forgotten debate revolved around the notion of the “new middle class”. We reconstruct the issues at stake, particularly from the point of view of the relationship between non-salaried work and the distribution of revenue. </description>
